OUR VALUES
OUR VALUES
At Makauri School, our values are the foundation of everything we do. Through Whakaute / Respect, Manaaki /Caring, Kawenga / Responsibility, and Hiringa / Perseverance, we strive to be the best we can be.
As a PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) school, we embrace a values-based approach to teaching behaviour. Instead of merely punishing undesirable actions, we deliberately teach our students how to behave in positive and constructive ways. When children demonstrate our core values, they are rewarded with Tiaki tickets, which enter them into prize draws and contribute to house points. This system not only acknowledges their positive behaviour but also fosters a sense of community and friendly competition.
Our expectations extend beyond our tamariki; we encourage our staff, parents, and wider community to embody and exemplify these values daily. By living through Whakaute, Manaaki, Kawenga, and Hiringa, we create a supportive, responsible, and persevering environment where everyone can thrive and together we can be the best we can be.
Each day when you pull up to our school, have a look at the flagpole. Beneath the New Zealand flag, you will see the colours of the house that received the most Tiaki tickets and won the week prior.
Each fortnight, we highlight and discuss a focus value with the children. A recipient is identified and acknowledged for embodying this value and is awarded a special values certificate.
