Welcome to Makauri School. Our School is situated on the outskirts of Gisborne, 10 minutes from the city centre. The School began as a single classroom in 1886 and is one of the oldest schools in the Gisborne region.
Makauri School today has 174 students and enjoys the best of being a rural school close to town and the facilities Gisborne has to offer. The school has the puriri tree as its logo. A puriri tree, planted in the earliest days of the school in the 1800s, stands at the front of the school.
BEING THE BEST WE CAN BE
Our Makauri Mission embraces the motto 'Being the Best we can Be'. This is applied to the students, staff, parents / caregivers, Board of Trustees and Friends of Makauri.
We are all aiming to 'Be the Best we can Be', as in partnership, we equip our children with the knowledge, skills and competencies they need in order to be life-long learners.
This Mission is achieved through goals, actions and objectives across a diverse curriculum of learning opportunities.
'Building Learning Pathways for Success' is Makauri School's Vision.
The above Vision invites all who are part of the Makauri School community to be part of building learning pathways for success, that all students deserve to enable them to be the best we can be. A 'pathway to learning' exists at the front of the school, leading from Makauri Kindergarten to Makauri School. This represents the strong connection and relationship with the Kindergarten - our partners in learning.
VALUES: Respect, Responsibility, Perseverance and Caring
Values are part of the everyday Makauri Curriculum. They are encouraged, modeled and explored. Teachers explore with their classes what each of the Values looks like, sound like and feel like across the school day.
